Most of our wardrobe choices are inspired by onscreen
stars. Yet some of our leading actresses do not always lead
us in the right direction. Let’s go down the not-so pleasant
and laugh-out-loud memory lane, as we feature the top
fashion faux pas from Bollywood’s reigning queens.
1 SRIDEVI, MR. INDIA (1987)
You see less of Sridevi and more of a walking, talking orchard. It’s a
wonder she wasn’t mistakenly eaten for dinner by an herbivore in
this fruity dress and hat. 3
2 SHILPA SHETTY, BAAZIGAR (1993)
Now a trendsetter, Shilpa was simply unrecognisable in her debut
fi lm. It’s true she has gotten plenty of plastic surgery since then,
but her sartorial selections were awful as well. She wore everything
from embellished jackets to oversized jewellery and ill-fi tting
clothes. The audience must have breathed a sigh of relief when she
was murdered before the intermission.
3 KAJOL, KARAN ARJUN (1995) 4 RANI MUKERJI, BICHOO (2000) ANI MUKERJI, BICHOO (2000)
The costume designers had no idea what they were doing when
R
they put together Kajol’s wardrobe for the famous song “Jaati Hoon
fi tting leather jackets and too-tight miniskirts that were meant
Main.” The rainbow dress paired with a western halter top and If anyone remembers this fi lm, it is probably because of Rani’s ill-
ghagra choli? What is going on! Also, how did her chandelier sized to accentuate her bad girl persona…or should we say bad girl
earrings not fall off ? with bad taste?
