           GREAT DEBATE RUBY SIRINARANG
Freelance Writer, Private Stock Investor and NLP Practitioner

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI) formulas that measure the six major air pollutants
(PM2.5, PM10, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and ground level ozone),
Bangkok’s air quality has been hitting dangerous levels daily. This has led to many schools
cancelling their outdoor activities, while many of the city’s residents are at greater risk of
respiratory problems. It’s important that our bodies stay strong, so supplementing vitamins can
aid in boosting immunity. My recommendations include:
                                                             1. Taking at least 600mg of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) daily.
                                                             2. Having 1,000mg of Vitamin C.
                                                             3. Children should also take Vitamin C daily, however the dosage depends on age.
                                                             4. Drinking lots of fl uids to keep yourself hydrated.

Bangkok has now joined the ranks as one of the world’s most polluted cities along with Beijing and
New Delhi. A combination of unhealthy exhaust from motor vehicle tailpipes, industrial factories, and
THIS MONTH’S QUESTION: burning crops and garbage, have all contributed to the dangerous smog plaguing the city. Here are
some tips on how to maintain your well-being:
                What preventive measures
should be taken to 1. Keep informed of pollution levels daily.
                                                             2. Avoid all outdoor activities, especially children, the elderly and individuals prone to asthma and
shield ourselves from bronchitis. They should wear a protective mask (N95) if going outdoors is truly unavoidable.

Bangkok’s smog? 3. Invest in an air purifi er which must include a HEPA/carbon fi lter. Remember to close all doors
                                                                 and windows.
                                                             4. Take Vitamin D and C, as well as Echinacea supplements to boost immunity. For congestion, take
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), an amino acid super nutrient antioxidant.
